WHAT IS SLEEP HEALTH?
Sleep health is the area of medicine that focuses on getting a good night's rest, which is so much more important than you may think. Sleeping at night is our body's chance to recharge and renew, allowing us to start each and every day feeling energized and refreshed. However, there are many issues that can cause us to get an insufficient night's sleep, which can bring about a host of other health issues. Of these sleep disorders, the most common is probably obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a disorder that causes the upper airway to collapse at night. At Integrative Pain and Wellness Center, our team of physicians understands how integral a good night's sleep is to your overall health and your life. We're pleased to provide a range of effective and innovative treatments to help make your resting time effortless. "We have had a great experience with Dr. Barker! Our newborn had a tongue and lip tie revised, and Dr. Barker worked with her to relieve restrictions. In three sessions, she has gone from a poor sleeper in constant discomfort to a happy, relaxed baby. He helped loosen up her tongue restrictions and she is nursing much better (and my pain is gone)! I highly recommend Dr. Barker."- K.P. / Google / Jun 24, 2020
"Dr. Barker has helped me turn my health around without the use of harmful medications. I was diagnosed with RA and didn't want to take the meds with horrible side effects. He has helped get my RA under control, I am off my cholesterol and blood pressure meds. He has helped with hormone treatment which has improved my life tremendously. And at the young age of 60 I feel fabulous thanks to Dr. Barker."- C.F. / Google / Feb 05, 2020

"I had seen multiple doctors including a primary care physician and dermatologist regarding severe back acne and nobody was able to help me. After one session with Isabel I saw tremendous results. I have seen her two more times since and my back is like night and day. She is amazing and really knows what she’s doing! I would highly recommend. I also saw Dr. Barker for Bodyworks and allergy testing. He is phenomenal. I will absolutely be a lifelong patient."- A.K. / Google / Jun 25, 2021
SIGNS THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG
Believe it or not, around one-fourth of all adults report that they don't receive a good night's worth of sleep for as many as two weeks out of every month. This makes insufficient sleep an incredibly common issue among men and women alike. Some symptoms you may notice as a result of poor sleep include:
- Excessive sleepiness
- Daytime fatigue
- Problems remembering
- Mood swings
- Weakened immunity
- Trouble concentrating
- Weight gain
- Lowered sex drive
HOW IS SLEEP HEALTH TREATED?
At Integrative Pain and Wellness Center, we will begin your treatment by determining the underlying cause of your sleep issue. Whether you have obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, or just feel tired and groggy throughout the day, we will work with you to figure out the source of your problem. In many cases, OSA can be caused by tongue-tie (or ankyloglossia), a condition characterized by the tongue being too closely tethered to the bottom of the mouth by a flap of skin. The most effective treatment for this would be tongue-tie release, a treatment that utilizes laser technology or medical instruments to excise some of this unneeded skin. Some other treatments that can be offered to help individuals sleep better include medication management and oral appliance therapy (OAT).
DON'T SLEEP ON PROPER CARE
Achieving proper sleep is integral to how your mind and body function and feel. Sleep apnea and other disorders can cause a range of issues, including depression and anxiety, and could even be life-threatening. If your nighttime sleep isn't what it could be and you find yourself feeling groggy and fatigued throughout the day, reach out to Integrative Pain and Wellness Center in Southlake, TX. Our team will work with you to diagnose your condition and treat it effectively so you can finally sleep soundly.
